How Did You Mark The End Of The Millennium?

ButtonHere in Britain, we found the perfect way to mark the end of the last Millennium by making a Children's Promise to help Children in this New Millennium, and some other countries have since followed our lead!!

This Is One Way We Can Make A Brighter And Safer World For Our Children

How the Millennium Children's Promise began!

ButtonIn 1997, the staff of one of Britain's best loved Department Stores, Marks & Spencer were asked how they would like to mark the end of the Millennium. They decided they wanted a cause that was all inclusive and reflected the Marks & Spencer's tradition of involvement with the community, and particularly children. Their Chairman, Sir Richard Greenbury said:

"In years to come, we will probably all remember the Millennium because of where we were, or what we were doing at the time. What we want to do with The Children's Promise is to create something which lasts longer than a pleasant memory and which benefits the children of tomorrow."

ButtonAnd that's exactly what the workers of Marks & Spencer's have done! They'd wanted a lasting celebration to mark the Millenium and so the Final Hour Appeal was 'born'. And now, many countries have adopted the idea as The Final Hour Appeal, Children's Promise or Children's Hour.

ButtonEarlier last year, both Sir Richard and Tony Blair, Prime Minister of Great Britain, set the trend by pledging their Final Hour's wage of the last Millennium to help Children and many other Countries have followed their lead.

ButtonNew Zealand's Millenium Children’s Promise

ButtonGil Simpson, Chief Executive and Children’s Promise chair, said:

"It was the children of the 20th century that made what we all share today possible. They have done a great job, and some gave their lives to protect the values we hold so dear.

"We can not think of the 21st century without wondering about the 22nd. The The children of the 21st century will determine these things. We must give to the children of the 21st century every support."

ButtonIf you would like to make donations to other Registered Charities, I suggest you choose a cause you are interested in, and recommend you find out what your chosen Charity does. Maybe it's sole aim is information or research, and perhaps you'd prefer to donate to a Charity that has a more 'hands-on' approach. Any gemuine Charity will be happy to explain what they do and exactly where your money will be spent, so why not give them a ring or better yet, pay them a visit.

ButtonI would advise against donating via the Internet as, unfortunately, it's all too easy for anyone to set up a web page and advertise whatever they choose. I say this, not to put you off giving, but because I know for most of us it's not always easy to find extra money, especially at this time of the year, so we want to make sure that every donation we make goes to a genuine cause!
